10 September Nail Colors and Designs For the Perfect Transitional Mani

September is, honestly, a really awk season for all things sartorial: I’m fairly chilly in the mornings and thus require a light jacket to start the day off appropriately, but by noon, I’m sweating like hell. My intended look is dark-red lipstick and a trench coat, but most days I wear wave spray and flip-flops.

That being stated, I find it simplest to fulfill my wishes with the right September nail design or color that completes the pre-fall season.

Of course, I want to wear all the classic fall nail colors and art rtfn, but I need to do it in a way that doesn’t quickly transition into creepy szn, you know? Behold, below: All of the inspiration I’ve gathered for this weird-ass moment.

When in doubt, choose neutrals. They will always work, regardless of the weather or the time of year. To take things a step further, try a trendy 3D mani with these swirls created using Sculptural Gel.

It’s a little difficult, so unless you’re already an expert at gel manicures—check out this tutorial—go to the salon.

Deep green nails scream fall. If you’re not quite ready, lighten things up with this olive-green tint. It’s not very bright or summery, but it’s also not too dark yet. And I don’t know about you, but they make me want a dirty martini badly.

3.Fall Orchid Nails

Florals for fall are groundbreaking in my opinion, especially when done in stylish, deep colors like this violet and berry manicure. Keep things fresh by painting one or two nails with orchids and keeping the rest simple with an aura or French design, as shown above.

Perfection is the enemy of a mismatched mani like this, which is exactly why we adore it. Bring yours into the fall with earthy tones, such as this cinnamon-toned red and yellow gold. Furthermore, the studded pattern on the middle finger immediately evokes grungy, edgy fall sensations.

5.September Nail Design: Rose Quartz

Although these nails appear basic from a distance, up close, they are anything but. A closer look reveals a raised chrome border and, inside, a rose-quartz design that looks like art on your nails.

6.Olive Retro Designs

Retro, ’70s vibes are popular (I contacted our fashion editor, and she agreed, it’s a big trend, thanks Chloé). So, why not try them on your nails? These abstract, swirly designs appeal to me since they have a large impression while being easily  diyed.

7.Fall Blues for September

Navy blue is a dreamy shade to add to your September nail collection since it combines the bright beachy colors you wore throughout summer with the depth to come. I’m a big fan of simply painting it all over your nails.

8.Fall Polka Dot Design

These shroom-inspired manicures showcase some of the most popular fall nail colors of 2024, including mustard yellow, scarlet, and olive green. Why not wear them all at once? Polka dots are also a big trend in fall.

9.Maroon Matte and Glossy French

Matte nails, according to every nail artist I’ve spoken with, are on trend for the fall and winter. Get in on the trend early (without going overboard) with this matte and glossy manicure in one of 2024’s hottest tones, deep burgundy.

10.Chocolate-Colored Nails for September

Julia Diogo, a nail artist, dubbed this manicure “chocolate fudge.” It’s rich and luscious. It begs to be paired with trench coats and dark denim on the first day when the temperature goes below 70 degrees.
