Tuesday was the day that the candidates for vice president, Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, and JD Vance, the senator of Ohio, engaged in a debate that was mainly amicable and moved quickly. The debate covered a wide range of topics. A look at some of the claims that were made during the debate that are not true and that are deceptive.
Iran has not been given $100 billion in assets that have been unfrozen since the administration of Biden and Harris took office.
Iran, which was responsible for launching this attack, has been given over one hundred billion dollars in assets that were previously frozen as a result of the administration of Kamala Harris. For what purpose do they put the money to use? They use money to purchase weapons, which they are doing today in order to launch attacks against our allies.
The facts are that the administration of Vice President Joe Biden recently reached an agreement to release six billion dollars’ worth of Iranian assets as part of a deal to release five American nationals who were being jailed by Iran. In spite of this, officials from the administration have stated that Iran has not received even a single dollar of that amount. The Obama administration had reached a deal that may have allowed Iran to access frozen assets in exchange for accepting constraints on its nuclear program. This deal was part of a pact that was negotiated before Biden and Harris took office.
As a result of the implementation of a historic nuclear deal with world powers, Iran announced in 2016 that it had gained access to global assets worth more than one hundred billion dollars that had been frozen. Since the international sanctions were tightened in 2012 due to Tehran’s nuclear program, the money had been held in banks in China, India, Japan, South Korea, and Turkey all along. According to statements made to Congress by Jacob Lew, who was serving as Treasury Secretary at the time, Iran would only be able to retrieve approximately fifty billion dollars’ worth of the frozen assets.
The cost of insulin is exaggerated by Walz before the cap is implemented.
“Before this law went into effect, they were still charging $800,” said WALZ.
In light of the facts, Walz exaggerated the amount of money that Americans were spending on insulin prior to the passage of a new law that capped costs at $35 per month for millions of elderly Americans who were covered by Medicare. In a research that was conducted in December 2022, it was discovered that individuals who were enrolled in private insurance or Medicare paid an average of $452 per year prior to the implementation of the fresh legislation.
It is Vance’s contention that immigrants who have entered the nation illegally are the cause of housing that is unaffordable.
Because we brought in millions of illegal immigrants to compete with Americans for scarce housing, you have housing that is completely expensive. This is because of the fact that we brought in illegal immigration.
The majority of economists believe that the consistent rise in home prices may be attributed to a deterioration in the housing supply over an extended period of time. From an annual rate of 1.4 million in April 2006 to just above 400,000 in August 2011, the number of new homes that were under construction experienced a precipitous decline. It was not until 2021 that the number of new homes under construction returned to 2007 levels.
Although Vance stated that his assertions that immigrants are driving up housing costs are supported by at least one prominent economic research by the Federal Reserve, he did not provide any specifics on this fact. The blog post that he was referring to was most likely one that was written by Neel Kashkari, who was the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis in May of 2024. The long-term impact of immigration on inflation is “unclear,” according to Kashkari; however, immigrants require a place to reside, and their arrival coincides with an increase in costs.
There is a possibility that immigrants will cause an increase in property prices in certain markets; nonetheless, the majority of economists believe that the problem is a shortage of homes that are now available for purchase. In order to construct the homes, the homebuilders claim that they require the immigrants. During a press conference held in September, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell stated that high mortgage rates are causing individuals to refrain from listing their homes for sale, which has resulted in an inadequate supply of properties available for purchase.
False assertions made by Walz The creation of a pregnancy register is part of Project 2025.
WALZ: “Their Project 2025 is going to have a registry of pregnancies,” the speaker further explained.
As a matter of fact, it is not the case. A record of each and every pregnancy that takes place is not included in the conservative initiative’s call for the collecting of “accurate and reliable statistical data about abortion, abortion survivors, and abortion-related maternal deaths.”
Project 2025 proposes that the Department of Health and Human Services should mandate that all states report specific information regarding abortions that are carried out within their borders. This information would include the total number of abortions, the age of the mother and the state in which she resides, the gestational age of the fetus, the reason for the abortion, and the method that was used to carry out the abortion. These data should be split into groups such as spontaneous miscarriages, purposeful abortions, stillbirths, and various medical procedures that result in the death of the fetus, such as chemotherapy. This is suggested by the finding.
The number of immigrants that Vance claims is exaggerated
VANCE: “We have twenty-five million to twenty-five million illegal aliens who are currently residing in the country.”
The truth is that the number in question is grossly exaggerated. During the period of January 2021 through September 2024, the United States Customs and Border Protection agency reported that more than ten million people were arrested for illegally crossing the border from Mexico.
This refers to arrests, not individuals. Due to the fact that there were no legal repercussions for being sent back to Mexico during the pandemic, many people attempted to cross the border multiple times until they were successful. The total number of individuals arrested is therefore less than the total number of people arrested.
There were roughly 11 million persons residing illegally in the United States as of January 2022, according to the most recent estimate that was presented by the Department of Homeland Security. Seventy-nine percent of these individuals entered the country prior to January 2010.
In Minnesota, the abortion legislation is distorted by Vance.
“According to VANCE, a physician who preside over an abortion in which the baby survives is not obligated to provide life-saving care to a baby who survives a botched late-term abortion,” the physician is not required to do so.
According to the facts, this assertion is not accurate since it misrepresents a statute that Walz signed into law in 2023 that updated wording regarding the care of new born’s.
A born alive infant as a result of an abortion is no longer the phrase that is used in the new language; rather, it is “an infant who is born alive.” It stipulates that medical staff are expected to “care for the infant who is born alive” rather than “preserve the life and health of the born alive infant.” This is a significant change from the previous situation.
“An infant who is born alive shall be fully recognized as a human person, and accorded immediate protection under the law,” and this provision is included in both the current version of the legislation as well as the version that was changed in 2015.
There is no change in the fact that the measure does not change the fact that infanticide is a criminal offense in every state, including Minnesota.
In response to Trump and the 6th of January, 2021
Remember that he stated that the protesters should demonstrate in a nonviolent manner on January 6th, VANCE is saying.
“I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard,” Trump said to the crowd that had assembled near the White House. However, this statement is not accurate.
The fiery language that Trump used during his speech was overlooked by Vance. During his speech, Trump pushed the crowd to march to the Capitol, where Congress was meeting to confirm President Joe Biden’s victory. Vance however ignored this language. “If you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore,” Trump said to the crowd with his words. In response to his attorney Rudy Giuliani’s statement, which was, “Let’s have trial by combat,” this occurred.
