The movie is being directed by Kyle Newacheck (Murder Mystery), and it is based on a script written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy. The official Netflix account announced on Monday that “Happy Gilmore 2 is officially in production,” and the message was made on X (which was once known as Twitter). A shot taken on set displayed a similarity to the Boston Bruins hockey jersey that Sandler’s character wore in the first film. The photo was included in the article.
The same shot was posted by Sandler on Instagram on Monday, which is his 58th birthday. The caption that accompanied the photo said, “It ain’t over. I have the impression that we have not even started yet. In the first film, Sandler delivers a phrase that is quite similar to the one that Christopher McDonald, who plays the antagonist Shooter McGavin, delivers.
Regarding the sequel, the specifics of the plot have not yet been disclosed. In the film Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler played the role of a hockey player who was unsuccessful during his career but became a golfing sensation due to his incredible drives.

When McDonald revealed that a script for a sequel was now being written, he let the cat out of the bag earlier this year. He made this revelation during an interview on the radio. The project was formally confirmed a couple of months later, with Netflix making the announcement on social media in May, saying, “Happy Gilmore is back! In a brand new film that will be available on Netflix, Adam Sandler will play the iconic part that he is famous for.
Benny Safdie will play a role in Happy Gilmore 2, according to Sandler, who has stated in recent media appearances that Travis Kelce, a top player in the National Football League, will make a cameo appearance. It is also expected that McDonald would resume his role as Shooter.
In an interview that took place not so long ago with The Hollywood Reporter, Sandler expressed his enthusiasm at the prospect of returning to the prominent character.

“The idea that my friend Tim Herlihy and I had, and the more we talked about it and worked on it scene by scene, it built, and we feel very strong about the movie itself,” Sandler said with regard to the film at the time. “The current situation is working out well for us, and we couldn’t be happier with it.” It’s hard for me to explain how our minds came up with the idea to do that all of a sudden. It simply so happened to be the case.”
In an interview with THR in 2015, Dugan stated that he did not believe a sequel to Happy Gilmore would be likely to follow. The director of the film made the following statement regarding Sandler at the time: “I can’t imagine he’d ever do that, but it’s Hollywood, so you never say that’ll never happen.”
