Dan Aykroyd endorses Saturday Night.
The actor and founding Saturday Night Live castmember discussed director Jason Reitman’s latest film, which focusses on the 90 minutes before the sketch comedy show’s 1975 debut, on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday.
Cracking a Head for Jason Reitman’s SNL win. Wow!” Aykroyd wrote after seeing the film at his neighbourhood theatre.
A wonderful view of top-tier creativity. Pretty accurate too.
The Ghostbusters actor said, “I was there that night and got to relive it wonderfully again. Good job, Gil, Jason, and Blumie. No matter your show knowledge, don’t miss it. It is an independent masterpiece and Best Picture candidate.”
SNL started in 1975 and follows a group of teenage comedians and writers. Gabriel LaBelle (Lorne Michaels), Rachel Sennott (Rosie Shuster), Cory Michael Smith (Chevy Chase), Emily Fairn (Laraine Newman), Matt Wood (John Belushi), Kim Mat (Garrett Morris).
The hardest part was identifying the movie’s Aykroyd, Reitman told The Hollywood Reporter. “It was genuinely scary.” Reitman claimed the actor had a “very unique sex appeal,” so when he learnt that “there was an appreciation of Dylan O’Brien” among women, he knew who to cast.
