Ja Morant Injury Update: Memphis Grizzlies Star Cleared for Return After Taylor Jenkins’ Dismissal

When the Memphis Grizzlies play their first game following the dismissal of coach Taylor Jenkins on Saturday, they may get their star player back.

Ja Morant was listed as questionable on the Grizzlies’ injury report ahead of Saturday’s game versus the Los Angeles Lakers at FedEx Forum. He has sat out six straight games due to a hamstring injury he sustained in the Grizzlies’ loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 14.

“It was something that occurred in the game,” Jenkins said prior to Thursday night’s loss at Oklahoma City against the Thunder. “It was kind of what developed out of the Cleveland game. He’s making a lot of good progress.

He’s working his tail off trying to get back out there. We’re looking forward to getting him back out there. He is, too.”

Jenkins’ sudden firing on Friday ensures that there’s no dearth of narratives going into Saturday’s game, and Morant’s possible return could be part of that. The Grizzlies host the Celtics on Monday and the Warriors on Tuesday.

Marvin Bagley III (concussion protocol) was also questionable. Brandon Clarke is out for the season due to a knee sprain, and GG Jackson and Yuki Kawamura are with the Memphis Hustle of the G League. Zyon Pullin is still out as he recovers from patellar tendon surgery.

Ja Morant has been cleared to return after sitting out considerable time for a right hip injury that forced him to miss the majority of the 2024 NBA season.

Memphis Grizzlies superstar, who played only eight games before getting hurt, was first spotted on crutches, which had everyone worried about the extent of his injury. But recent reports indicate that he is now healed and ready to return to action.

His return is timely for the Grizzlies, who have been struggling in his absence and recently fired head coach Taylor Jenkins. The team’s poor record this season, along with injuries to several key players, prompted Jenkins’ firing.
