President Joe Biden Pardons Hunter Biden for Gun and Tax Charges

Published

Hunter Biden, who had been convicted of firearms and tax offenses, was pardoned by Vice President Joe Biden, thus avoiding the possibility of serving time in prison. This decision overturns a previous vow made by Vice President Joe Biden to refrain from using presidential powers for the advantage of his family. The decision was made several weeks before the sentencing, and it comes in the midst of President-elect Trump’s imminent visit to the White House.

Because President Joe Biden granted a pardon to his son, Hunter, the younger Biden was saved from having to serve time in jail due to federal felony convictions connected with firearms and taxes. The younger Biden was also able to turn back earlier assurances that he would not use the extraordinary powers of the presidency for the benefit of family members.

Based on his beliefs in the two trials that occurred in Delaware and California, the Democratic president had earlier indicated that he would not pardon his son or commute his sentence. It is just less than two months to when President-elect Donald Trump will return to the White House, and action comes just a few weeks before Hunter Biden was scheduled to receive his penalty for his trial conviction in the gun case and guilty plea on tax charges.

The president’s son, whose public disclosures that he is under federal investigation were first reported in December 2020, a month after Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election, has been in a lengthy legal battle.

Biden had earlier told ABC News in June that he wouldn’t pardon or commute the sentence of his son Hunter in the gun case being tried in Delaware. The trial for Hunter was taking place.

As one might expect, there were questions about whether the president would pardon or give clemency to the younger Biden. “We have been asked that question many times,” said Karine Jean-Pierre, the press secretary at the White House. “No, that is the answer that we have to offer.”.
