I have to admit that I had low hopes for the A24 film “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” I’m not usually a fan of teen slashers that rely heavily on comedic timing and Gen Z slang, but the murder mystery aspect piqued my interest. So, after seeing it, I was pleasantly pleased at how much I liked it. It’s presently available on Netflix, but it won’t be for long, as it’s scheduled to exit the streaming site shortly.

Of course, I don’t want to spoil anything, especially because this is a classic murder mystery. While it may not be a groundbreaking addition to the genre, it does provide enough of entertainment value with its amusing character reactions and unexpectedly satisfying finish.

With its exit from Netflix just around the corner, now is the ideal moment to enjoy this wild adventure. “Bodies Bodies Bodies” is a delightful and riveting movie worth watching at least once. Here’s why.

“Bodies Bodies Bodies” tells the story of a group of young friends who gather at a rural home for a hurricane party. Due to the violent storm outside, they decide to play the murder mystery game “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” When one of the participants is discovered dead, the game quickly becomes chaotic.

Paranoia and mistrust reignite as the buddies, each with their own secrets and grievances, turn on one another. As they try to locate the killer among them, their friendships fray, and they learn that the ultimate threat may not be the storm outside, but the lies and betrayal within their circle.

“Bodies Bodies Bodies” is a film that only needs to be seen once. While it may not be the best film ever made, it is undeniably entertaining. Rachel Sennott’s portrayal as Alice stands out the most to me since she provides excellent comedic relief. Even though Alice isn’t the main character, she delivers some of the film’s most memorable laughs.

Finally, I must commend the two major characters, Sophie (Amandla Stenberg) and Bee (Maria Bakalova). They have evident chemistry as a relationship, and their allegiance to one another is tested throughout the film as allegations fly left, right, and center. Their performances truly anchor the film, bringing depth and intensity to the “whodunnit” mystery while never falling flat.
This is why I enjoy movies that are lighthearted and don’t take themselves too seriously. In a world when many films seek for great drama or deep concepts, it’s wonderful to see a film that is content with just entertaining. “Bodies Bodies Bodies” excels in this sense, providing a fun journey with no pretense. It serves as a reminder that sometimes it is best not to take things too seriously.

Of course, there are problems that need to be addressed before you wade into the turmoil. The primary issue is that the film tries to balance powerful horror elements and comedy, occasionally leaning too heavily on one at the expense of the other, leaving me perplexed as to where the tale was going. And then there’s the cliché dialogue, which would certainly make anyone cringe at moments, but I suppose it adds to the film’s ludicrous hilarity.

Despite these problems, the film has a particular character and an atmospheric storminess (literally) that lends it a special charm. It has a high Rotten Tomatoes rating of 86%, with viewers giving it a 69%. Ella Kemp of Empire Magazine summed up the film perfectly: “Tense when necessary and awfully good fun throughout.” Stupidity reigns supreme among these wealthy adolescents, yet the filmmakers are astute enough to have Bodies Bodies Bodies stick the landing.”
