The flagship location of Taco Mesita, a brand-new gourmet fast food concept, softly debuted last month in Old Town Tustin and serves tacos, burritos, snacks, and more.
Chef Ivan Calderon, of Taco Mesa and Taco Rosa fame, along with his son and co-founder Nico and designer Max Moriyama developed the idea.
Co-founder Nico Calderon stated in a statement, “We questioned why exceptional eating experiences were reserved for expensive locations.
Taco Mesita will provide items that you would often find at a regular taco stand on a street corner, such as skirt steak, rotisserie chicken, or al pastor tacos on home-made corn tortillas. Nevertheless, you can also order burritos, a beer or margarita, and a mole made from a blue corn tamal filled with huitlacoche and mushrooms that has been handed down through the generations of the Calderon family (corn truffle).
The woodfire beef burrito, which is the most expensive item on the menu, is only $9.50 before tax.
You can still feed a family for a fraction of the price you’d pay at other restaurants with a menu of this calibre, according to Calderon, who added in a statement that the restaurant prioritises quality above quantity. “What makes us proud of what is that,”
