Targeting big-budget genre sets, the HBO comedy from “Veep” creator Armando Iannucci and “Succession” writer Jon Brown
Armando Iaunucci is on his way; Hollywood big-budget tentpoles get ready.
Working with Succession and Veep writer Jon Brown, the Veep and Avenue 5 creator/writer crashed from the worlds of media, politics, and outer space into a superhero movie set for the satirical series, The Franchise, which has now launched a teaser video.
Along with Iaunucci (The Thick Of It, The Death Of Stalin) and Brown, who is the showrunner, Sam Mendes (Skyfall, American Beauty) is the director and executive producer.

Himesh Patel sets the mood in the video by saying, “Everything’s exploding at a million miles an hour, and the movie is a scrotum resting on a razor’s edge.” Patel is portraying the director of an unpopular series film “fighting for its place in a savage and unordered cinematic universe.”
The logline says, “The comedy series sheds a light on the secret mayhem inside the world of superhero moviemaking, to explore the question – how precisely does the cinematic sausage get made? Every fuck-up has a genesis tale.
Along with Richard E. Grant and Daniel Brühl as regular guest stars, rounding out the cast is Aya Cash, Jessica Hynes, Billy Magnussen, Lolly Adefope, Darren Goldstein and Isaac Powell.

At one point Brühl remarks, “I’ve eaten a lot of shit for this money — a Subway footlong bit of turds.”

Mendes, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown and Julie Pastor executive produce for Neal Street Productions; Iannucci for Dundee Productions along with Brown and Jim Kleverweis. Mendes directed the pilot; Brown wrote it.
