Mercer’s latest Quality of Living Report highlights cities that offer the best quality of life to expats and their families. The report considers a number of factors such as housing, recreation, education, socio-cultural environment, healthcare, safety, public transport, air quality and economic stability. The top 10 cities that made the list are among those that succeed in the areas mentioned above, despite changing global challenges.
The following are the ten cities with the best quality of life this year:
Zurich, Switzerland
Top of the list is Zurich with its world-class healthcare, vibrant cultural events and security for its citizens. With its open spaces and effective infrastructure, it also sets an example for urban living. This year, there have been more flights to and from other continents, and it has also upgraded its airport connections.
Vienna, Austria
Vienna is in second place. The city has maintained its attraction for foreigners due to its emphasis on sustainability, vibrant culture and first-class healthcare.
Geneva, Switzerland
Geneva has moved up to third place this year, thanks to its strong foreign community, low crime rate and first-quality public services. Political stability, spectacular natural scenery and other factors all play a role in the way residents live healthy lives.
Copenhagen, Denmark
The famous green program and work-life balance have made Copenhagen the most sustainable leader in its category. It is a great destination for tourists due to its good public transportation and medical facilities.

Auckland, New Zealand

Frankfurt, Germany
Frankfurt is one of the world’s leading financial centers; it offers a great location, greenery, and rich cultural heritage. The city was included in the list for its good location, accessible highways, and trains, among other reasons. Frankfurt is also considered a city with a relatively low cost of living and great quality of life.
Bern, Switzerland
Bern is very famous for its good medical treatment, strict safety standards, and peaceful atmosphere. Its medieval look makes it attractive to many.
Basel, Switzerland
Basel is at number eight. Some of the factors that have made it popular include its excellent public transportation system, safety record, booming art scene, and top-notch healthcare and educational systems.
Europe dominates the top 10, but other parts of the world also made notable entries. Auckland leads the Pacific region, while Vancouver represents North America. Singapore ranks 30th in Asia and is the only Asian city in the top 50. Topping the Middle East rankings are Dubai (83rd) and Abu Dhabi (85th), while Port Louis in Mauritius ranks 88th in Africa. Montevideo is South America’s leading city, at 92nd.
