A new report shows these glaciers will disappear within the next 30 years.

perhaps one of the most visible indicators of its impact is its effect on Earth's iconic glaciers, an important source of freshwater supplies.

Glaciers have melted at a breakneck pace in recent decades, causing sea levels to rise by about 20%  since 2000. 

Among the glaciers on the verge of disappearing from World Heritage sites are those of two of the most visited and popular parks in the United States: Yellowstone National Park 

Glaciers cover about 10% of the country and provide freshwater for households, agriculture and industry downstream.  

Under normal conditions, they take up to a millennium to fully form; Every year they gain mass from snow or rain and lose mass from melting in summer.

“As the  water melts, that water will accumulate in so-called glacial lakes; and if the water comes in, those glacial lakes could burst," he said. “

And this eruption can lead to catastrophic flooding, which we've seen in Pakistan recently. 

"In drought-stricken areas like the western US, an increase in meltwater can be a good thing, but Resende said it's only temporary.
