Sydney -- U.S. Women's basketball coach Cheryl Reeve called Alyssa Thomas last December in hopes of making her a part of the national team pool.
It wasn't that long ago that Thomas, who competed overseas in the Czech Republic during the WNBA offseason, didn't even consider her name.
As a long-time overseas player, she finds that national team commitments are usually her only break of the year.
"I wasn't too concentrating on playing for Team USA, but she called me and described her dream and talked about security
and passing and I think that's my individuality and character," Thomas said Friday. "So for me, it was a no-brainer to give it a try."
Reeve, who was named USA Basketball's head coach the same month, told Thomas that she would be clear if things didn't go in the direction she hoped.
Thomas was obliged to give it on the spot.
Less than a year later, Thomas and the U.S. The national team is an excellent pairing for the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup
