Biden warns democracy is 'under fire' as midterms enter final stages.

"We need an overwhelming voice to confront political violence and voter intimidation, period," he said. 

A bullet or a hammer. Biden later denounced the Jan. 6 attackers as a mob "crazed" by former President Donald Trump's lies about the 2020 election.

"American democracy is under attack because the defeated former President of the United States refuses to accept the results of the 2020 election," Biden said. 

The speech came just six days before the November 8 election in which the Democrats will defend their slim majority in Congress.

FiveThirtyEight predictions point to a possible Republican takeover of the House of Representatives while the Senate is on the move. 

"I urge all Americans, regardless of their party, to face this moment of national and generational importance," Biden said. 

Sheinkopf said it's "hard to imagine" Biden's message on democracy moving the needle ahead of next week's election.

"[Biden] needs to show he's a uniter at a time of great division, but will he really  move voters?" Sheinkopf polled.
