Rebecca Donner's Family Story Took Nearly a Lifetime to Tell

Rebecca Donner won the 2022 National Book Critics Circle Award for history for All the Frequent Troubles of our Days.

The story of Donner's exceptional far off aunt, Mildred Harnack, who as a young midwestern alumni student moved to Berlin

And became one of the tops of the greatest underground resistance social event to Hitler during the 1930s and 40s,

This is both the tale of a heroic young woman and the narrative of how an attractive troublemaker caught a country.

As well as sharing Mildred's story, Donner subtleties the nagged request that helped her piece together her auntie's life.

Rebecca Donner: Many people ask me, how long did it expect for you to make this book?

In addition, one way to deal with answering that question is basically for as long as I can remember.

It was actually my grandmother who gave me the letters. In any case, before that, when I was nine, my exceptional grandmother was taking my level in her kitchen.
