Sony's first major PS5 redesign includes a detachable disc drive

an extra USB-C port to plug it into

According to Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson, the next iteration of the PlayStation 5 will include a removable disc drive, allowing you to play games using a drive connected via USB-C.

The report claims that this new model of PS5 could be seen by September 2023.

The PS5 now comes in two versions: one with a disc drive built in and a "digital edition" that can't read discs even if you plug in a USB drive.

Sony seems to be trying to eliminate that digital/disc divide, instead selling the same console with or without the drive bundle.

Hopefully, this means that even if you choose to save some money when you first buy a PS5, you'll be able to boost the console with a disc drive later

An option that's particularly appreciated as consoles get more expensive. Many countries like the UK, Canada, and Japan.
