The United States is quickly establishing itself as a top defensive team by utilizing its athleticism to make scoring difficult for opponents 

Shakira Austin scored 19 points, Kahleah Copper added 16, and the United States dominated Puerto Rico 106-42 in the World Cup on Friday 

"It's fun to play on a defense-loving team; it really fuels our offense," said Alyssa Thomas, who had six of the Americans' 13 steals 

The Americans guarded Arella Guirantes, who had 26 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists in Puerto Rico's opening win over Bosnia and Herzegovina 

Since losing to Russia in the World Cup semifinals in 2006, the United States has now won 24 consecutive games 

Puerto Rico (1-1) had just won its first World Cup. Hollingshed, who attended Colorado University, finished with 10 points 

The US reserves, led by Austin, outscored Puerto Rico 47-21. Brionna Jones chipped in with 15 points and nine rebounds
