Despite some name similarities, Mike Flanagan's upcoming spooky anthology series for teens based on a Christopher

Pike's book is unrelated to his earlier work. It will premiere on Netflix later this week

The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Haunting of Hill House, and Gerald's Game,

all of Flanagan's Netflix productions created under his multi year contract with the streaming service

are worthwhile to watch, but if you had to pick just one, it would be Midnight Mass.

When you introduce monsters into the people of a tiny island with ardent Catholic beliefs, Midnight Mass is what results

The plot is largely based on Flanagan's early years as an altar boy and his struggles with addiction

and it heavily draws inspiration from Stephen King's book Salem's Lot

The outcome is an eerie story with more terrifying monologues than jumpscares. –
