WNBA Refs Facing Pushback for Controversial Call Against Caitlin Clark

Hosting the WNBA playoffs-hopeful Atlanta Dream, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever played in their second-straight home game on Sunday afternoon. Seven teams already have a place in the postseason, and the Dream are among the others still under pursuit.
Clark was carrying the ball up the court with forward NaLyssa Smith trailing her with 2:11 left in the second quarter. The former Iowa Hawkeyes standout handed the ball to Smith as she passed halfcourt.

Smith had to leap forward to grab the ball so the officials wouldn’t call a backcourt violation.
The refs still signaled a backcourt violation even though it seemed Smith had crossed the halfcourt line in time to acquire possession of the ball. This gave Clark yet another turn around that day.

WNBA supporters disagreed with the refs were roasting Clark online, so unhappy with the call on him.

Specifically. These references have an agenda and/or simple plain incompetence.
“Some awful refs! Should you not play ball, you should not be reffing”.

“For Fever, this was known as a backcourt turnover. Another said, refs doing some strange s***.”
“These refs are so…,” remarked another.
“Reflections on one once more! Unreal!” a sixth entry posted.
Leading the Fever to one of the WNBA’s finest records since returning from the Olympic break, Clark has gone 7-2 with a five-game winning run. Clark has received two Player of the Week honours and the Player of the Month title for August over that period.
