Yellowstone storyline left fans struggling to make it through the season

Yellowstone storyline left fans struggling to make it through the season.

Taylor Sheridan’s writing on Yellowstone is usually praised by fans. On the hit neo-Western, he has created intense, complex characters that fans can both relate to and fear at the same time.

But Lloyd’s (Forrie J. Smith) arc in Season 4, was one storyline that left fans questioning Taylor’s motives.

In previous seasons, Lloyd was seen as one of the most trusted hands on The Dutton Ranch – he also wears the Yellowstone brand on his chest, meaning he was chosen by John Dutton (Kevin Costner) to remain on the ranch for life.

His loyalty to the ranch, friendship with Rip (Cole Hauser) and the Dutton family is what left fans confused in season 4 when Lloyd started doing things that seemed out of character.

During Season 4, Lloyd started brawling with Walker (Ryan Bingham) over the barrel racers that oddly had moved into the bunk house on the ranch.

Lloyd even went so far as to smash Walker’s guitar and stab him – although he did throw the knife instead of actually pushing it in himself.

Their drama led Rip and Lloyd to fight, even though Rip had previously tried to kill off Walker and Lloyd and Rip seemed to be incredibly close.

All of the out of character actions led one fan to take to Reddit to voice their concerns.

“Hi, everyone. I just want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon, and doing all the things that that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone, that beloved series that I love and I know you love. I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5, or into the future,” he shared.

In the mid-season finale of Yellowstone Season 5A, tensions flared as major developments unfolded for the Dutton family.

John found himself increasingly bound to his duties as governor, creating complex dynamics within his family. This is especially true with his daughter-in-law Monica who may step in to manage the ranch.

Kayce faced a poignant dilemma between his family and the ranch, following a prophetic vision. The episode intensified with Jamie initiating a bold political move against John, setting the stage for a deepening family rift.

Meanwhile, Beth’s shocking discoveries about family secrets lead her to confront both Jamie and John.

This dramatically escalated the internal family conflict to new heights, hinting at more dark twists to come as the series progresses.

That said, with Kevin confirming his departure, the remaining episodes must creatively address the fate of his character, John.

Yellowstone is preparing to draw the curtain on its original narrative with the conclusion of season five.

But the story universe will expand with a new sequel series already approved for production.

Instead of a season 6, this upcoming series, rumored to star Matthew McConaughey and tentatively titled 2024, continues the tradition of Yellowstone prequels like 1883 and 1923.

As of the June 20 announcement, Kevin is the only actor to officially announce his exit.

Fans can expect the return of regulars such as Cole, Wes, Luke, and Kelsey Asbille, who are likely wrapping up filming in Montana.

Yellowstone launched its fifth season in November 2022 to record-breaking viewership, drawing over 12 million viewers to its premiere.

This season, totaling 14 episodes, stands as the series’ longest.

The concluding six episodes are slated for release on November 10.

Currently, every Yellowstone episode is available for streaming on Peacock, while other series installments, including 1883 and 1923, are featured on Paramount’s own platform, Paramount+.

The final episodes of this beloved Western are highly anticipated and will premiere on Sunday, Nov. 10.
