Trump Dismisses Six National Security Staffers After Meeting with Far-Right Activist Laura Loomer

Donald Trump fired six National Security Council (NSC) employees after a meeting in which he met with another politician and right-wing activist, Laura Loomer. Loomer had presented opposition research to Trump against several officials, which suggested that these officials were not loyal to Trump. Several close aides of Trump were also present in this meeting, including JD Vance, Chief of Staff Suzie Wiles, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.

Loomer had prepared a file, which contained information about about a dozen employees, who, according to her, were not loyal to Trump. The list also included the name of Waltz’s principal deputy assistant, Alex Wong. The employees who were fired included people like Brian Wash, Thomas Boodry, and Maggie Doherty, who were senior directors of the National Security Council and were associated with some former government officials.

Although no clear reason was given for the dismissal of these employees, according to one person, the White House looked at the research presented by Loomer and confirmed some facts. It was found that one official had recently criticized Trump on social media, and other employees had ties to established Republican Party leaders, such as John McCain and Mitch McConnell, whom Trump hated.

However, Wong, whom Loomer had made the main target of her criticism, was not fired. Loomer had made several serious allegations against Wong and his family, including that his wife, Candice Wong, had done prosecution work against the January 6 Capitol attackers. Loomer even said that Wong may have had ties to the Communist Party of China, although these allegations were completely baseless.

Loomer’s criticisms sparked a war of sorts against National Security Council staff, including those known as “neocons,” who favored greater US intervention in foreign affairs, as opposed to Trump’s policy of “America First,” which called for limiting intervention abroad.

Waltz was also said to have been with Trump on Marine One as he left the White House, indicating that Trump supported her. However, it is also believed that Waltz’s position was not strong, and her support was only because Trump did not want to give the media another victory. Waltz only had Senator Lindsey Graham as her key ally, while her relationship with other Trump aides inside was not so good.

After these incidents, Loomer tried to remove some staffers in her meetings with Trump, and her influence in the White House increased. The issue also made it clear that there was an internal political battle going on between Trump and his team, and the question of staff loyalty had become a major issue.
