After a period of about six years since the very successful Avengers: Endgame, the assembly for Avengers is set once more.
Marvel Studios during a live stream lasting nearly five and a half hours revealed its cast members for Avengers: Doomsday, featuring a my-school blend of former and new cast members-from-the-franchise as well as faces from 20th Century Fox’s now-defunct X-Men universe to the latest up-and-coming stars affiliated to the Fantastic Four universe, which will premiere with the title First Steps. Important names missing from the roster included Tom Holland (Spider-Man) as well as Chris Evans, with strong betting that that latter will appear at least one of the two-part movies-more.
Announced were cast members Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Danny Ramirez (The Falcon), and Winston Duke (M’Baku).
The cast of Marvel’s upcoming May release anti-hero team movie Thunderbolts was also present at this event, so Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), and Lewis Pullman (a character at this time simply known as Bob) all got themselves some chairs on the soundstage, as the live-stream showed.

Tanach Huerta Mejía, who played Namur in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was the first true casting surprise. Speculation surrounded his return to Marvel after allegations of sexual misconduct emerged in June 2023, which he denied as “false and completely unsubstantiated.” He dropped out of a Netflix movie amid the media storm but later appeared as a guest at Marvel’s Echo premiere event, suggesting that he and the studio were on good terms.

Sources have reported that, although Marvel has announced 26 actors, it is not finished with the cast yet. However, when and how the next unveiling will occur remains unclear.
It was a simple event: an image of a director’s chair, the backing of which showed the name of a star. Then, every twelve minutes or so, music from the movie of the next actor would announce the camera’s movement to the new chair and name. It ended with the swell of a new take on composer Alan Silvestri’s Avengers theme with Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom) in suit and tie, giving a “shhh” to the camera.

Marvel first announced Avengers: Doomsday with great fanfare at San Diego Comic-Con in July, with the surprise revelation that Downey was coming back to the MCU after retiring the role of Iron Man with Endgame. The move helped reunite Downey with the Russo Bros., Marvel’s most bankable directors, who had also left the MCU after Endgame.

Recently, the Russos classified the new endeavor under the banner of the Hollywood Reporter, which will hold a record of casting the movies and having the characters straight: casting bears a challenge. They use baseball cards featuring every single Marvel actor and character. They carried out this not only for Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
“Now they have magnets on them so we can put em on a board and look at em” Joe Russo said. Added Anthony Russo: “And as far as how do we look at who’s in the movies, it’s just a long creative process of exploring where we want to take the story. What is the most surprising and exciting area for us to push into, and which characters help us in that effort?”
