Warriors Secure Moses Moody with a 3-Year, $39 Million Extension

Golden State Warrior Moses Moody agreed to terms with his team, the franchise announcing the signing of a three-year, $39 million rookie contract extension signed on Sunday night through Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul. The extension makes Moody’s future secure with the Warriors as they move forward to form around their young talents and experienced players.

Moody, who was selected with the 14th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, was playing the last year of his rookie contract. In the last two seasons alone, the young 21-year-old has proved his worth as Kerr’s reliable rotation player. His performance has attracted more attention during this year’s training camp, making expectation of a larger presence in the next season.

The deal is good at a time when the Warriors are looking forward to establishing dominance in the tough Western Conference. Present main performers such as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green are still at the core of the franchise, which means that Moody is seen as a player who will help the organisation in the near future.

From the defensive standpoint, he shows great versatility as a big man and can shoot the three while adding some youth to the Warriors while blending it with experience. Moody’s contract extension is a clear pointer to the confidence the Warriors have in his development. Moody answered that with his play in the preseason, scoring 15.5 points in 20 minutes and starting three games. His field goal percentage was .456 to go along with a .394 three-point field goal percentage, proving that he averaged 5.5 attempts from beyond the arc. Although his position is not necessarily that of defender, his contribution to that aspect of the game, in combination with his complete performance, has made him liked both by Kerr and the staff. Kerr has been especially voluble in his praise for how far he has seen Moody come during the training camp and preseasons.

Kerr added, “He is playing really great”. He has improved so much in almost all areas that need improvement.” We’ve never had any issues with his character or his work attitude, I might add. And that is the most confidence he has played with.

As for Kerr, he also stated that the squad faced potential issues with regards to the allocation of the game minutes to all players on the team this season, of which the presence and increased contribution of Moody on the team have already been evident. “He’s likely to be one of our main players,” Kerr said, before emphasising, “as are many others.” We’re sitting in that coaches’ room every day saying: ‘It was going to be almost impossible to play all these guys.’

He added: “It means all the players should play because everyone deserves to be on the field.” Before the next season starts, these factors will matter to the Warriors: The increase in Moody’s playing time and his progress. Making him even more of an asset during preseason, he still is not guaranteed many games as the Warriors roster is as deep as it can get.
